If water is escaping the wet area — bubbling paint next door, soft skirting, mould bloom — the original waterproofing has failed. Here's the realistic Sydney cost to put it right, by severity.
Minor — surface remediation$5,000 – $12,000Visible mould or efflorescence, no damage to adjacent rooms. Strip wet area, re-membrane to AS 3740, re-tile.
Moderate — subfloor or wall damage$12,000 – $25,000Water has reached the subfloor, plasterboard or adjacent walls. Includes substrate replacement, treatment and re-build.
Severe — structural rebuild$25,000 – $40,000+Multiple rooms affected, framing rotted, ceilings below damaged. Full strip-out, structural repair, re-membrane and re-fit.
